A talented field of thirteen has been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2016 Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens, highlighted by the inclusion of several previous winners at the highest level of Australian racing.
Press Statement was a standout amongst his own age group in 2015 and has been confirmed for a competitive return in the 2016 Hobartville Stakes field.
Capping an impressive debut campaign with a maiden Group 1 win in the JJ Atkins (1600m) at Doomben on June 6th, the Hinchinbrook colt resumed in spring for second in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) but failed to fire when fifth in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) on September 12th.
Responding in the best way possible with a commanding performance for success in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) on September 28th, Press Statement continued his dominance at a mile when delivering a talented field of sixteen a comfortable defeat in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) most recently on October 10th.
Press Statement has trialled well in the lead-up to his competitive return and will leave from barrier 8 in the Hobartville Stakes.
Vanbrugh may need more distance to return to winning form, however the three-year-old’s class is sure to count for a lot in the 2016 Hobartville Stakes first-up.
Requiring a few runs to find form in spring, Vanbrugh clearly relished a continued step up in distance when winning each of the All Too Hard @ Vinery BM70 (1600m) and Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) before taking out the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) most recently on October 10th.
Vanbrugh has trialled well in the lead-up to his competitive return but will need luck in transit in the Hobartville Stakes after drawing the outside barrier 13.
John O’Shea has confirmed three runners for Godolphin in the 2016 Hobartville Stakes field including classy stayer Etymology and Shards.
Etymology steadily built to the task through the recent Spring Carnival, but returned to the paddock after placing sixth in the Listed UCI Stakes (1800m), third in the Group 3 Caulfield Classic (2000m) and second in the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m).
Shards won the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) at the beginning of a busy spring campaign, and while somewhat inconsistent, posted several impressive results including second place finishes in each of the Stan Fox Stakes and Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m).
Having resumed this time for fourth in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m), Shards will leave from barrier 10 in the Hobartville Stakes with notable hoop Brenton Avdulla in the saddle.
