Press Statement Ready to Win 2016 Hobartville Stakes

February 16th, 2016

Leading Sydney hoop Hugh Bowman is confident duel Group 1 winner Press Statement is forward enough to win Saturday’s 2016 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens after partnering the colt in a gallop over the weekend.

Press Statement has been a strong and consistent performer for trainer Chris Waller since first appearing on course competitively in the late stages of last year’s Autumn Carnival and is undefeated in his two starts under Bowman which included the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) most recently on October 10th.

The Hinchinbrook colt has performed well in a handful of barrier trials in the lead-up to his competitive return and Bowman is confident the feel offered up by the three-year-old on Saturday morning suggests he will be very hard to beat in the 2016 Hobartville Stakes.

“I rode him in a track work gallop on Saturday morning between races and that was the first time I have been on his back since the Caulfield Guineas,” Bowman told Sky Racing HQ.

“I was very impressed.

“He is going to take benefit from the run, but I know that Chris has been very bullish about having him forward enough to win first-up.

“I was very pleased with him, his action is very free and fluid and he has strengthened up physically and he is in good shape.

“He always had a longer action, but he is a stronger colt and he has grown into his frame.

“He is an exciting colt, who is already a Group 1 winner and he has a big autumn ahead I would think.”

Press Statement immediately stamped himself as a colt to follow upon debuting to racing for consecutive wins in a pair of minor Sydney sprints before delivering a talented field defeat in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Doomben in just his third competitive start.

Resuming in spring for second in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m), Press Statement failed to fire when fifth in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) but responded in the best way possible when taking out the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) in his only other start prior to the Caulfield Guineas.

The 2016 Hobartville Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
