Team Snowden have been thrilled with the form displayed by Pride Of Dubai since his return to work and have revealed the dual Group 1 winner will be set for a return in a race like the 2016 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 20th.
Pride Of Dubai stormed onto the Australian racing scene as a two-year-old through the 2015 edition of the Autumn Carnival; failing to finish outside the first three in four starts, highlighted by success in each of the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) and Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).
Having beaten a strong field to the line in a Randwick barrier trial on Tuesday morning, co-trainer Paul Snowden told Racing Ahead the team had initially underlined the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) as the first point of call for the colt, but the January 30 jump date will likely come around too soon.
“He definitely needed it, I dare say he needs to have another one, he was never going to be pushed out at all, it was just a fitness thing,” Snowden said.
“He jumped well and travelled quite strongly throughout the trial so it’s all good so far.
“He’s very fresh in himself and he was always going to trial like that.
“He won the trial but he was still well and truly within himself.
“He’ll have another trial in about 10 days’ time and we’ll assess how his fitness levels are before we go to the races again.”
While yet to settle on a specific major target this time, the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) in early March will likely figure.
“He’s had a long layoff and a horse of his ability, he’s going to race at high level,” he said.
“We’ve got to have him pretty well up to the mark and ready to go.”
Trialling well in the lead-up to his competitive debut, Pride Of Dubai immediately stamped himself as one to watch when third in a talent-rich Rosehill minor over 1110m in late December 2014; progressing to second in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) in his only other start prior to the Blue Diamond Stakes.
