Shinn to Partner Shooting To Win in 2015 Hobartville Stakes

February 3rd, 2015

A standout performer over the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, trainers Peter and Paul Snowden have confirmed leading jockey Blake Shinn will take the ride on Group 1 winner Shooting To Win in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) first-up on February 21st.

Finishing outside the places just once in five spring starts, Shooting To Win has not been seen at the races since taking out the major Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) ahead of a classy field on October 11th.

Having been partnered by now-Godolphin number one hoop James McDonald in his Caulfield Guineas victory, Shooting To Win was partnered to an impressive barrier trial victory by Shinn this morning, who is excited by the prospect of a successful partnership, beginning with the 2015 Hobartville Stakes.

“He did please me very much,” Shinn said.

“He is obviously the Caulfield Guineas winner in the spring and his form speaks for itself, but he has obviously got to come back this autumn and do it.

“He is a very valuable horse and yesterday’s trial indicated that he has come back in fine order.

“Peter wanted me to make sure that he jumped and came out in a good position and he did everything that we asked.

“He sprinted very quickly and it was quiet a fast heat, the time was very quick.

“He chased a good horse in Echo Gal and beat a good horse in Hallowed Crown, so it was a very good trial.

“He wanted to win, which is a good sign.

“I have had a fair bit to do with the horse. I rode the horse in his first start for Peter Snowden and unfortunately after that I couldn’t ride him because he didn’t get my weight in the lead-ups to the Golden Rose and I took other commitments.

“He gave me a great feel and I am very much looking forward to riding him first-up in the Hobartville.”

Beating just one runner home in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) first-up on August 23rd, Shooting To Win quickly found form in finishing second in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) and third in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m); returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) in what was his only other start prior to the Caulfield Guineas.
