2015 Hobartville Stakes First-up for Hallowed Crown

January 28th, 2015

Charging home to secure a maiden victory at the highest level over the 2014 Spring Carnival, trainer James Cummings has revealed the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on February 21st is likely to figure as the first point of call for Hallowed Crown this time in.

Finishing outside the places just once in his five start career so far, Hallowed Crown was considered a leading chance of success in the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes in early September, but was dealt a cruel blow when allocated the wide and awkward barrier 14.

Replicating the feats of 2013 champion Zoustar, Hallowed Crown tracked forward rounding onto the final straight at Randwick; displaying an exceptional turn of foot to hit the line a head in the clear of Scissor Kick.

Thrilled with the form and class displayed by the Street Sense colt since his return to work, Cummings told Racing Ahead a race like the 2015 Hobartville Stakes will figure as the perfect first point of call ahead of the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) on March 7th.

“He’s just been coming to hand really nicely for us,” Cummings said.

“He’s a beautiful horse and it was nice to see him out there (at Randwick) and he looked particularly good as he ranged up alongside The Peak who’s a really nice Saturday class sprinter.

“I’d really like to have him second-up into the Randwick Guineas, so if he could run in a 7-furlong (1400m) race first up that’d be ideal, and there’s a couple of them coming up in the next few weeks.”

Comfortably taking out a minor event over 1150m on debut in March, Hallowed Crown made a successful step-up to black type company when taking out the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) on Day 1 of The Championships before returning to the paddock.

Returning in spring for success in the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) in his only other start prior to his Golden Rose triumph, Hallowed Crown ran a somewhat lacklustre fourth in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) most recently on October 4th, drawing a close to his impressive campaign.
