Nominations for the 2014 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) have been released, with a current list of 12 set to feature in one of three Group 2 events at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this weekend, including Koroibete.
Part-owned by Rugby League players Robbie Farah and Chris Lawrence and named for Wests Tigers teammate Marika Koroibete, the exciting three-year-old has finished no worse than third in six starts to date which has included wins in the Your Local Greengrocer Plate (1500m), Bacardi Together 3.y.o Maiden (1350m) and 2014 ATC Membership On Sale Maiden (1800m) most recently.
Having been bred with a sprinter career in mind, leading trainer Gerald Ryan identified staying talents in Koroibete and has instead aimed the exciting gelding at what is shaping to be a successful profession in distance events.
“As soon as I saw him I know he would be a stayer even though everyone told me he was bred to be a sprinter” Ryan told AAP recently.
Also included in nominations for the 2014 Hobartville Stakes is talented Peter Moody-trained colt Dissident.
After recording a particularly consistent 2013 spring campaign that included second behind Zoustar in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) in September, Dissident has seemingly returned to the track in 2014 in good form, producing a strong final straight-sprint to finish second behind El Roca in the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 15th.
Trainer Trent Bussutin has seemingly chosen the same path for El Roca as Moody has for Dissident, having also nominated the Fastnet Rock colt for the 2014 Hobartville Stakes.
Prior to his first-up success in the Eskimo Prince Stakes, El Roca scored two wins and a place in only four starts in his maiden preparation last spring and closed his campaign fifth behind Long John in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 12th.
Jockey Hugh Bowman, who has been confirmed to retain the ride on El Roca in the Hobartville Stakes, revealed the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) as the major target for the exiting three-year-old immediately after his first-up triumph two weeks ago.
“He was first-up today but he feels like a miler, no question about it. He’ll go to the Hobartville in two weeks, but after today, you’d be confident going towards the (Randwick) Guineas” Bowman said.
