Early betting in the 2011 Hobartville Stakes has provided no shortage of options for punters.
Claiming early favouritism at online bookmaker Luxbet is New Zealand horse Somepin Anypin. With three wins from four attempts this preparation it’s no surprise to see him in at a $3.50 fixed price.
Next is Ilovethiscity with punters seemingly impressed by the late charge which almost saw him almost snatch a place late in the Royal Sovereign. He sits at $6 just one point inside Skilled at $7.
Skilled has been hampered by drawing barrier 13 and you would expect that’s affected his value by at least two points.
People are slowly losing patience with Masquerader and he’s drifted out to $8.50 after punishing punters with a last start flop.
The only other two under double figures, both at $9, are Pressday which desperately needs a good run if an Australian Guineas push is to be realistic and Top Drop which is actually pretty good value for a horse flying slightly under the radar.
Overall it’s a very tricky race to read with Somepin Anypin the only one showing anything other than sketchy form.
For that reason we’ll back the punters and say Somepin Anypin to come in first but we’re not quite as confident with the others.
Retrieve is a much better horse than his current $13 odds and is worth an each way bet with our tip for him to run second.
Skilled certainly has a lot of talent but the barrier draw might be a bit too much, but we think he’ll do enough to come home in third.
In the mix will also be Top Drop and if you fancy an outsider to add value to your exotics have a look at Gai Waterhouse’s Light Brigade.
Currently at $26 after stalling last start but had shown excellent determination in previous runs.
