The 2011 Hobartville Stakes final acceptances and barrier draw look to have played a big part in the hopes of the top runners.
The $200,000 Group 2 has no shortage of genuine contenders but their luck has already been tested in a very interesting barrier draw.
Masquerader has fared the best of the lot by scooping up barrier one and only adding to the expectation being put on him.
Despite a last start flop in the Royal Sovereign it’s the Caulfield Guineas placing which has punters ready to back him home.
It’s a stark contrast to other favourite Skilled which drew the extreme outside in gate 13. On route to the Australian Guineas Skilled beat Masquerader to place in the Royal Sovereign but will have a pretty tough time of it coming from wide this weekend.
Peter Snowden’s other entry Retrieve drew a lot better and from gate three looks a real threat. With a placing in seven from eight career races including four wins there will definitely be a lot of money coming in for Retrieve as we draw near Saturday.
The main threat from Chris Waller is the much hyped Pressday which wasn’t helped by drawing gate nine. After winning the Sandown Guineas Pressday faltered badly in the Royal Sovereign. However this horse has never put together two bad runs in a row and with five wins from nine is certainly a good shot.
Other runners to draw well were Gai Waterhouse’s Light Brigade in barrier two which struggled in the Royal Sovereign but previously hadn’t missed a place and Straight Albert in five which will be first up after a solid end to last preparation featuring two wins and a place.
Both Light Brigade and Straight Albert are expected to be at juicy odds with such a quality field surrounding them.
In fact with no runners showing consistent quality form it really is anyone’s race. That is great news for punters on Luxbet who will be guaranteed better than TAB odds on the 2011 Hobartville Stakes.
