The 2011 Hobartville Stakes is shaping as a real revival race for some of the top nominees this Saturday.
There are 15 nominations for the $200,000 Group 2 event which is run over 1400m at Rosehill Gardens.
Two of the highest rated entries in Pressday and Masquerader were disappointing in their last starts, both in the Royal Sovereign Stakes at Randwick.
Chris Waller trained Pressday is aiming for a shot at the Australian Guineas but will need to improve drastically on his eight placed finished in the Sovereign on February 12th.
In the same boat is David Payne trained Masquerader. Despite a solid third in the Caulfield Guineas the colt slumped to sixth in the Sovereign and never genuinely threatened.
However despite these poor runs it’s worth noting the Randwick event was over 1200m and both horses will find the 1400m a better trip.
The other big name nomination is Peter Snowden trained Skilled which is also eyeing up an Australian Guineas birth. This horse also ran the Royal Sovereign and performed far better with a third placing by just under a length in the colts first up event.
Hoping to make it a double entry for Snowden is Retrieve which has already been successful in multiple Group rated events.
David Payne has a second entry as well, Praecido which has very handy credentials including a second placing in the Victoria Derby.
There are a few other runners worth mentioning in the 2011 Hobartville Stakes field including Gerald Ryan’s Top Drop which placed at the Gold Coast Magic Millions.
Also the Graheme Begg trained Ilovethiscity which finished just outside the money in fourth at the Royal Sovereign first up for the season.
The 2011 Hobartvile Stakes confirmed entries and barrier details will be updated on this site on Wednesday.
