Monton Wins 2010 Hobartville Stakes

March 1st, 2010

There was an incredible upset in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) on Saturday, as clear favourite to win –Manhattan Rain, took out the fifth spot.

Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse came alive as a flurry of horses bolted down the stunning track, and with eight races spanning the day, the race certainly provided some drama.

Manhattan Rain once again left his bettors in the lurch not producing what seemed a certain win. The colt went into the race at $2.35, with a drop to $6 to next favourite, More Than Great who also had a disappointing performance and finished tenth.

Winner of the race, Monton, went into the 2010 Hobartville Stakes with no heavy expectations.

Shoot Out produced a spectacular race, starting slow and finishing with a strong sprint to come in second, pipping the Roger Milne-trained Captain Sonador into third.

It seems the 2010 Hobartville Stakes winner will head to Randwick for the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) on the 13th of March.

Also taking place on Saturday at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse was the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes and the Group 3 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m).
